ABOUT US
We are a pre-K through grade 3 suburban RI elementary school. In our art classes, we use the Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) Choice-based Art Education method. Students come to class with their own creative ideas that they develop alone, with a partner or group, and with the teacher. They have a choice of not only subject matter, but they also have a choice of what materials they want to use to execute their idea. They can choose from the drawing center, the collage center, the stamping center, the painting center, the printmaking center, or the 3-D center. They are also encouraged to use techniques from more than one center on a piece of work. Students learn to plan, problem solve, correct mistakes, and stick with an idea over an extended period of time. TAB art education teaches students creative thinking and problem solving along with many other 21st century skills.
